World of Coffee event with Annelies

In the first week of June we are looking forward to revisiting Berlin. This wonderful city is home to some of the friendliest coffee people we know and we can’t wait to meet up again with a lot of old friends and enjoy the World of Coffee event. Our time in Berlin will also be spent with our Hannes and Sophie as they host us at Annelies for a number of social gatherings and engaging coffee events. Below is an insight into what we have planned. Please come along to join us and reach out if you’re in town to meet up.

Friday 7th of June, 16.00 to 21.00

Natural Wine at Annelies

Along with our friends at Annelies we invite you to relax and unwind after a long day at World Of Coffee. Chef Matt will provide a beautiful selection of small plates by for all your dinner needs & bright selection of natural wines will be flowing to buy by glass.

We look forward to welcoming old friends and meeting plenty of new people.

Meet the Producer. Coffee tasting & discussions at Annelies

Before joining all the action of World Of Coffee we invite you to start your day with us and our friends Annelies. Each morning during WoC we will be hosting a friend & producer at Annelies for an intimate coffee tasting and casual discussion about their work and the realties of life at origin. It’s a rare and unique opportunity to taste and talk about coffee with the people dedicated to producing some of the worlds best coffees in Ethiopia, Colombia and Brazil. As well Hannes and the Annelies team will be open as per normal for all your coffee and breakfast needs.

Helanna Georgalis of Moplaco

Helanna Georgalis is vastly experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to the Ethiopian coffee industry. Her company was originally started by her father Yanni Georgali in 1971 who from the age of 12 had been working in coffee with other exporters or coffee traders. Helanna herself literally fell into the business after Yanni passed away very unexpectedly. Originally the only thing she knew about coffee is that It was always good in our house and that she needed it desperately. At this point she returned to Addis to take over the business and continue his legacy. Recently ECX transformed itself allowing a deeper traceability into the market and creating a sector that has a more flexibility than before. It allowed Moplaco to restart their dormant Yirgachefe operations, where we were the first to ever produce Specialty Sundried Coffee and export it directly to our clients. In the past year they have been able to produce coffee once more, with an added twist, taking time, to create microlots with different processes.

Sebastian Villamizar of Equation Coffee

Sebastian Villamizar is the Managing Director of Equation Coffee, as well as being a pretty talented coffee brewer as the two time Colombian Brewers Cup Champion 2017 & 2018. Equation Coffee represents top-of-the-line coffee production projects, evaluating great coffees and categorising their profiles into fragments of flavour. Based in Colombia they currently work on four exciting coffee projects including the famed @La Palma El Tucan, who recently were responsible for the coffee used to win the World Barista Championship in Boston. We have been close friends and admirers of the work done by Sebastian and his team for many years now. They are the among the leaders rethinking Colombian coffee farming whilst through innovation have been presenting and challenging the flavour profile we can expect from this much loved coffee origin.

Gabriel Agrelli Moreira of Daterra Coffee

Gabriel Agrelli Moreira is very familiar to many in the industry. He is the vastly experienced Manager of Quality and Market Development of Daterra Coffee. When it comes to understanding thoroughly the many facets of coffee farming and production Gabriel is second to none. From the humble beginning in 1902 and with a continued desire to educate, Daterra is well established as a leader in coffee production from their base in Cerrado, Minas Gerias, Brazil. With sustainability and innovation the key focuses they closely and meticulous operate three high quality coffee farm projects. Most recently the industry has been blown away by the The Masterpieces coffees. This very “small farm” is a lab, where we test new ways of producing coffee. The lab is rich with new and unusual varietals, processing methods, drying techniques and limitless experiments.
